Oxford Kings Baseball
Club was founded in 1999 by three
University of Oxford postgraduate students
from Keble College. The club originally
represented the University of Oxford, but in
2001, the Kings became the baseball club for
the City of Oxford. Since then, players from
all over the world have joined the team and
helped build the game within Britain.
2010 saw 11 years of hard
work pay off, with the Kings winning both the AAA
South Division and the AAA National Championship.
The Division title went right down to the wire, as
the Kings squeezed out a final victory in their last
game to end the season 19-5 (wins-losses) and edge
ahead of rivals, Herts Eagles (18-6).
The BBF (British Baseball Federation) National
Baseball Championships, or ‘Final Four’, saw the top
4 teams from across the AAA North and South
Divisions competing for the National crown over the
2-day tournament. The Kings started well, dousing
Bracknell Inferno 11-10, however a loss in the
afternoon to Liverpool Trojans (3-2) meant it would
have to be done the hard way! Sunday morning, a
reinvigorated Kings team came out and flew by
Divisional rivals, Herts Eagles, setting up a
rematch in the final with Liverpool Trojans. Squad
depth proved through though as the Trojans could
only muster 3 runs against a Kings onslaught of 13
in 6 innings.
2011 proved to be another exciting and memorable season for the Kings as we defended our BBF crowns. The Kings did it again, making it to the final game against a strong Liverpool side. Oxford played their Hearts out but Liverpool pulled out with 3 great innings to secure an 11-1 finish. No crown in 2011, but a fantastic finish in the runners-up spot sees the Kings firmly cement themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the BBF AAA leagues.
2012 sees a format change to the BBF AAA leagues, with 2 pools playing in the South. The Kings will play in Pool A, but will face opponents from both Pools during the season.
Come out and join us to play, train or support as the Kings enter another fierce year of competition in 2012.
