25 April 2005 - The Kings started the 2005 season with a good win over the Croydon Pirates yesterday.  The final score was 21-14.  There was some good hitting and pitching, but the team will need to work on fielding plays at the next practice so that there are not so many errors committed in future matches.  On the other hand, there were some impressive plays in the field, including a good catch in the outfield by Michael Lamb and an impressive infield play by Adam Stegeman at 3rd base.  The Man of the Match was Derek Kelly, who started on the mound for the Kings and struck out 9 batters in 3 innings!  Unfortunately, Derek allowed a run in the 3rd inning so had to be removed.  No, seriously, since the Kings have such great pitching talent this year, it was important to give others a chance to take the mound to acquire some game experience.  Michael Lamb and Matteo Convento pitched the remaining innings and did a great job.  They were helped out by some solid catching by Thad Parsons, who stopped many perfectly placed sinkers that hit the dirt just behind home plate.  Good job Kings!
