Kings news:
If you hadn't already heard through the national media, the Kings made a strong start to the season on Sunday April 29th, easily taking both games of the double-header against the Enfield Sidewinders. The Game 1 score was Oxford 13 - Enfield 0, and the Man of the Match award went to Matteo Convento, who pitched a complete game shut-out with 12 strike outs!!!
The Game 2 score was Oxford 21 - Enfield 6, and the Man of the Match award went to Paul Boland, for his outstanding offensive contributions. On the day, Paul batted .857, with 5 singles, 1 double, a walk, and a magnificent HBP (way to take one for the team!).

Jacks news:
This past Sunday, the Jacks travelled to Bournemouth to play their first ever games since the formation of the team earlier this year. There were many highlights, including some very strong outfield play by Jamie Parish, Tom Williams, Martin Williams and Steve Lloyd. There was also some excellent infield play (including 3 double plays!!!) by a dynamic infield that starred Adam Stegeman, Dan Weeks, Roger Farrell, Andy Meigs, and the ubiquitous Tom Williams. Old-timers Santo Bains and Masa Egawa pitched and caught the majority of innings during the day, and were supported by some ferocious relief pitching by Roger Farrell!!!! In his first ever inning, Roger amazed the crowd by striking out the Bournemouth clean-up man. The second revelation of the day came from Englishman Martin Williams, who, in his first ever game for the Oxford Baseball Club, claimed one of the days Man of the Match awards for leading the Jacks offensively, with an impressive array of hits, steals and runs. Masa earned the days other MotM award with his reliably solid pitching, catching and hitting. Unfortunately, due to budget constrains (or possibly a forgetful team captain), the Jacks Man of the Match award winners did not receive any bags of sweets. The other bad news of the day came in the form of two losses, but hey, when everybody is having so much fun - who cares?

This coming Sunday, the Kings travel to Richmond to play the Knights. Over the past few years, the Knights have proved to be tough opponents for the Kings, so it ought to prove a competitive fixture. With early season wins always proving to be so crucial to outcome of the Kings season, it should be a tense encounter. Go Kings!
